Bud Light Cowboy Downhill

It all began over 40 years ago when Billy Kidd, Steamboat’s Director of Skiing, and Larry Mahan, six-time All-Around World Champion cowboy, decided to invite a few of the ProRodeo stars to Steamboat for a day of skiing. The cowboys had such a great time that the Downhill has become the most popular event of the season with over 100 of the best professional rodeo cowboys competing in the most unique ski rodeo in the country.

In Steamboat Springs we do things differently, and with the oldest, continuous Winter Carnival west of the Mississippi, this event is certainly no different.

The WinterWonderGrass Festival brings an authentic Colorado gathering celebrating bluegrass and craft beer to Steamboat February 22-24, 2019. The festival features more than 25 bands and 20 Colorado breweries over four days.
Bud Light Rocks the Boat Free Concert Series

Steamboat will be rockin’ during the winter ski and snowboard season as the Bud Light Rocks the Boat free concert series returns offering a great mixture of musical genres. The series has featured everything from bluegrass to New Orleans style rhythm and blues and traditional Irish music to flat out rock and roll. The 2019 lineup will be announced soon.

Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler-The good times are definitely ready to roll in Ski Town, U.S.A.® when the Steamboat Mardi Gras comes marching in on March 2 with a free concert, parade, a Cajun Crawfish Boil and Mardi Gras party with facepainters and street performers. Food enthusiasts can enjoy Mardi Gras themed lunch creations across the mountain.

The 11th Annual Cody’s Challenge, a randonee endurance ski race, will be held on Saturday, April 6th across the Steamboat Ski Area. Cody’s Challenge allows participants the unique opportunity to climb, traverse and descend a variety of trails across the mountain under their own power through the use of specialized bindings and skins. The Cody St. John Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in memory of Cody St. John, who was a professional patroller with the Steamboat Ski Area.

The Cardboard Classic, Steamboat's traditional rite of spring returns to the Steamboat Ski Area for the 39th year. This wild and hilarious race features homemade cardboard crafts, constructed only from cardboard, glue, string, water based paint, duct tape, masking tape, balloons and other decorations, racing down Stampede to a hysterical finish. The uniqueness and creativity of the race make it an event looked forward to each year.

Wrapping up another epic season at Steamboat, this event has antics like you wouldn't believe. The Splashdown Pond Skimming Championships brings brave (and slightly crazy) skiers and riders in costume with a dream - of crossing the icy pond successfully - and, if they're lucky, with style!
